Barrett Hileman, MFA

Barrett Hileman is a theatre maker with credits in Directing, Devising, Dramaturgy, Acting, Playwriting, Design, and Administration across Canada and the United States. For seven years he was the producing Artistic Director of Spread the Word Theatre, a touring theatre company in Canada connected to international development across the globe. Barrett held multiple roles with the Canadian Badlands Passion Play in Drumheller, Alberta during his 16-year tenure as a member of the directing and creative team. His musical version of the Passion Play was listed in the Calgary Herald’s end-of year “best of” list in 2019. He has had a twenty-year association with Calgary’s Fire Exit Theatre (FET), directing numerous plays for them, including Shadowlands, their highest selling show which also garnered FET their first Calgary Critics’ Award nominations. Through his devised work and dramaturgy, Barrett has directed numerous world premieres. Barrett’s creative work focuses on discovery of “the new,” whether for audiences, his artistic collaborators, and/or his own intellectual, creative, and spiritual development.
