Building a Thriving Research Culture at Ambrose: The Impact of the Research Support Fund

Calgary, Alberta – October 20, 2025 – Ambrose University is cultivating a vibrant community of scholars–faculty and students who are advancing knowledge, discovery, and innovation across disciplines. From undergraduate research projects to faculty-led studies, Ambrose continues to strengthen the research culture that is the foundation of a thriving academic environment. Maintaining this foundation requires consistent and strategic investment– something made possible through the Government of Canada's Research Support Fund (RSF).

Student Research in Action

One recent example is a Biology 2025 graduate whose independent research project was published in the Canadian Journal of Zoology.

The opportunity to participate in research with faculty mentors and achieve publication in a respected journal represents not only a distinct achievement for an undergraduate student but also reflects the strength of a research environment at Ambrose.

This achievement–rare for an undergraduate student–was made possible through close faculty mentorship and the institutional support structures that help students succeed.

Strengthening Infrastructure and Ethics in Research

Behind every successful research project lies a foundation of essential infrastructure: modern labs, and equipment, access to current knowledge resources, effective administrative and compliance systems, and strong ethical oversight.

Since first receiving RSF funding in 2018, Ambrose has invested these resources to strengthen the institutional framework that enables high-quality research. The fund support:

  • Research management and administrative systems
  • Regulatory and ethical compliance
  • Research facilities and equipment
  • Knowledge mobilization and public engagement

Together, these investments sustain a growing scholarly community and create opportunities for both faculty and students to engage in impactful research.

Building Capacity Through Community Learning

Another example of how Ambrose is building research capacity is through Scholars' Corner,  the university's annual research and scholarship event.

The 2025 edition–Research in an Era of Caution–focused on the challenges scholars face in maintaining data security, navigating evolving research ethics, and adapting to changes in Canada research landscape.

"Events like Scholars' Corner not only enhance professional learning for faculty and students but also ensure our institution continues to model integrity and excellence in research," said Pam Nordstrom, Provost at Ambrose University.

Building Capacity Through Community Learning

The ongoing support of the Research Support Fund continues to be vital to Ambrose's mission of fostering a culture of scholarship and discovery. It allows Ambrose to maintain the infrastructure that makes meaningful research possible. It's an investment not only in our institution but in the next generation of Canadian scholars.

Through these investment, Ambrose is building a sustainable research environment–one where both faculty and students can thrive as contributors to Canada's broader research community.
