Ambrose University invites applications for the Dean of Theology position, commencing August 1, 2024.

The Dean is responsible for providing administrative leadership to the Faculty of Theology by envisioning, articulating, and enabling the programs, advancing student success, overseeing personnel, and managing resources that support the ongoing work of the Faculty. The Faculty encompasses the Seminary including the Theological Studies in Chinese programs and the School of Ministry. The Dean reports to the Provost, Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Seminary and School are embedded in the university, so the Dean works in close collaboration with the Dean of Arts and Science and the Associate Deans of the Schools of Education and Business to advance the institutional goals and align programs with the institutional mission. The Dean has responsibilities to external stakeholders of the Seminary and School of Ministry.

The position is a full-time management position that carries faculty rank but not tenure status. Personal adherence to the Christian faith is a bona fide occupational requirement. Deans are normally expected to teach at least two course each academic year.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Represent the Faculty to prospective and current students.
  • Provide leadership to program and accreditation reviews, ensuring standards are maintained with the Association of Theological Seminaries (ATS), Association of Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), and the Church of the Nazarene International Board of Education (IBOE).
  • Provide leadership for new program offerings and delivery formats.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Theological Studies in Chinese program.
  • Oversee the continuing education initiatives.
  • Recruit tenure-track and lecturer faculty. 
  • Provide leadership to faculty with respect to instruction, research, and service responsibilities.
  • Oversee the administrative and operational functions of the Faculty of Theology.
  • Prepare and manage department budgets and resource allocation.
  • Advise on university policies and procedures as they relate to the Faculty of Theology.
  • Serve on appropriate committees.
  • In conjunction with the President and Provost, represent the Faculty to key external constituencies.
  • Facilitate articulation agreements, transfer credits, and partnership contracts with other post-secondary institutions.

Qualifications
    •  
  • Earned doctoral degree in a discipline of theology.
  • Affiliation with the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Canada or the Church of the Nazarene preferred.
  • Familiar with seminaries and undergraduate biblical programs in the Canadian context.
  • Evidence of capacity to manage diversity in students and faculty.
  • Experienced in program and curricular development.
  • Able to build and maintain relationships with church constituencies.

  • A compensation package commensurate with education and experience is available.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory background criminal check and academic transcripts.
