FAQs
- I’ve checked out some books. How long can I keep them?
Books from the circulating collections are loaned for 2 weeks at a time. Course reserves are lent for either two days or two hours. For further information see “Circulation” on the Services page. - How do I renew the books I have checked out?
Books can be renewed by clicking the link on the pre-due email notification or by clicking on the My Account button on the library’s catalogue search screen. Items that are overdue or that have had holds placed on them may not be renewed. Your ID number is the number on your student/library card, and your PIN is the last 4 digits of your phone number. If you have difficulty using the online system you may call the Circulation Desk (410.2946) for help. You do not need to have the books with you to renew them.
- How much are the overdue fines?
For regular items (anything with a two–week loan period), overdue fines are $1.00 per item for each day that extends past the initial loan period. (Reserve items also have overdue fines charged at the rate of $1.00 each hour for each item that has exceeded the initial loan period.) - How do I place a hold on an item I need?
You can place holds on items by clicking the "Place Hold" button on the catalogue search. You will need to enter your student ID/libary card number and pin (the last 4 digits of your phone number). For further information or for help, contact the library circulation supervisor, Diane Ayer. - May I take journals or magazines out of the library?
