    Canadian Poverty Institute: Research Assistant

      • As part of a group effort with other summer staff and Institutional Data staff, the role will complete bulk and individual data maintenance on our Alumni and Donor data.
        1. Processing data that has been collected by the Advancement and Institutional Data staff throughout the year and;
        2. Through direct calls to donors and alumni over the summer as part of larger donation request.
      • Complete sets of donor communications ranging from donation acknowledgments to donor solicitations for both the summer and Christmas 2024 asks.
      • Assist in the development of a solicitation list, soliciting donations from targeted companies and individuals, develop suggested donation targets for each item, and placement of online auction items for the Ambrose Golf tournament.

    Library: Library Assistant

    • Acquisitions 
      • Unboxing new shipments of print books, which includes checking the invoice to make sure all invoiced items have been received 
      • Receiving and invoicing these new print book shipments 
      • Receiving new print periodical issues and identifying whether claims need to be made on missing issues 
    • Cataloguing (these tasks follow on the Acquisitions tasks above) 
      • Searching, downloading and saving catalogue records 
      • Adding a barcode label to new print books and scoring/opening books properly 
      • Printing spine labels accurately 
    • Circulation of materials 
      • Handling patron requests, checking out items, making items available for pickup 
      • Collecting items from the book drop and returning them in the system 
      • Shelving returned, repaired, and newly-acquired materials 
      • Fulfilling electronic scanning requests 
    • Collection Maintenance 
      • Assisting library staff with a collection-wide inventory (scanning books to determine if they are shelved correctly and identifying potentially missing books) 
      • Assisting with annual binding project: determining which periodicals need to be bound; preparing periodicals, books for repair, and theses to be sent to the bindery; receiving bound volumes on return and shelving these in the collection of bound periodicals 
      • Pulling items from the shelves for Course Reserves and changing their location in the library’s online system 
      • Processing newly-acquired materials so that they are shelf-ready 
      • Shifting physical items on the shelves to create space for incoming materials 
    • Customer Service 
      • Opening and closing the library during service hours 
      • Monitoring library phone and email to answer questions as appropriate and referring complex questions to professional staff 
      • Registering new patrons and helping to ensure that existing accounts are up-to-date 
      • Assisting patrons with using the printer and library computers 
      • Processing payments for fines 
    • Interlibrary Loan 
      • Assisting with Interlibrary Loan processing (pulling book requests from the shelf, checking items out to ILL patrons, preparing books for shipment, bringing shipment packages to Reception for mailing) 
    • Additional Projects can include: 
      • Helping to create resource/research guides for various disciplines 
      • Assisting with processing archival donations and organizing archival materials for the institutional archives

    • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
