March 14-16, Legacy Youth Conference Ready to Illuminate
January 28, 2008 - Under the leadership of Associate Professor of Youth Ministries Dave Brotherton, planning is well underway for the 2008 edition of Legacy Youth Conference: Illuminate. The conference becomes an annual focus for students with over 50 students involved in the various sub committees. All the planning activity is directed by the 18 members of the Central Planning Team (CPT) who earn academic credit for their leadership.
This year's theme "Illuminate" is derived from John 1:4-5. The team chose Illuminate because they felt that the word summed up a number of ideas. Adam Ayer (BA History) says it speaks of "liberation to live an illuminated life". According to Jalen Saip (BA English Literature), "we are taking kids deeper so they can light up their world".
For CPT members, Legacy Youth Conference is an important part of their Ambrose experience. D'Arcy Watsham (BMin Youth) started volunteering for Youth Conference in his first year. He enjoyed the experience and now likes being part of the planning. Josh Jacobs, (BMin Youth), served last year on the sub-committee that planned the conference seminars. He really liked his committee's leader and and watching things come together.
The students find they are learning a lot about leadership since each member of the Central Planning Team leads a sub-committee. Marley Wood (BA Christian Studies) who leads the Stage Crew says she is "learning patience" as she works with her group of volunteers. Monica House, (BMin Youth) heading up Prayer points to understanding how to "delegate effectively". Once you delegate, you can't go back and micro-manage".
This year's conference will be held March 14-16, 2008 at Rockpointe Church in Calgary. Over 600 delegates and sponsors are expected to attend.
