Ambrose Launches Mentoring for Business Students

news

April 10, 2008 - Part of the vision at Ambrose is a committment to develop leaders who will one day shape church, social, economic and political institutions. Therefore faculty and staff strive to effectively shape students in holistic ways. Mentoring relationships are one way to accomplish this goal.

Ambrose students have been mentored both formally and informally through the years; internally through faculty relationships, student development leadership opportunities, and externally through practicum or internship opportunities. Co-curricular vocationally oriented programs, like Ambrose's GoingGlobal?, provide internationally-minded mentoring relationships.

A new Career and Life Calling Mentoring Working Group for Business Students was launched this past March. This six-month pilot will help Ambrose determine how best to connect students with professionals in the field of business to help them work out vocational questions, learn about the workplace environment and determine how to live out and integrate career and faith in the workplace. Mentors for this pilot are needed in sectors such as accounting, real estate management, financial investment, human resources and recruitment.

David Adams, Business Program Head, comments "the exciting thing about mentorship is that it creates a two-way partnership where business people influence the students and student share their excitement and energy with the mentors."

Organizations interested in mentoring or developing partnerships with Ambrose students are welcomed to contact careerdevelopmentcentre@ambrose.edu.
