Construction Update: The Finishing Work Begins

news

May 14, 2008 - The new campus is entering the finishing stage. The project continues to be on time and on budget. According to Greg Needham, Ambrose VP Operations and owner's representative for the project, "There are literally thousands of details being attended to each week, all working toward delivering an exceptional campus for students, faculty, and staff."

Library/Academic Centre/Gymnasium

Significant progress can be seen as each week passes. New milestones include the installation of the millwork in the library, the arrival of the gymnasium hardwood floor, finalizing the installation of the curtain wall glass, and the installation of the vestibule walls. The large double staircase installed in the Sylvester Atrium reveals what Carmel Gatt, the lead designer of the project, had in mind when designing the space.

Student Residence

Curtain wall glass stairwells currently being installed will allow students to see out over the campus as they use the generous stairwells. The stairwells will also serve as reading rooms, nap spaces, "special conversation space", and private phone call space.

The residence continues to be well on schedule with sinks, toilets, and showers already installed and the carpeting scheduled to begin early next week.

The Final Stretch

The mood on the site of the new campus is upbeat as construction heads into the final stretch. Gregg Aiken, President of Elan Construction has casually commented that, "it will be a push but we will definitely get you [Ambrose] in on time".
