Campus Occupancy Permits Approved by the City

news

September 10, 2008 - Yesterday VP Operations Greg Needham announced that the City of Calgary inspectors have issued the occupancy permits for both the main campus buildings and the residence.  These permits allow Ambrose to conduct the business of education on the campus.

The occupancy permit for the main campus buildings was issued last Thursday.  The significant inspections were mechanical, electrical and life safety.  Greg Needham especially commends Crestview Electrical and Petrin Mechanical for successfully guiding the process in a timely and efficient manner.  Remarkably the permit was issued on first inspection without callbacks.

The final city inspection of the residence was delayed until yesterday due to an electrical power issue that affected phone installation and elevator construction.  However, once this problem was resolved, trades and volunteers worked quickly to get the residence inspection ready.  This permit approval means that students can move into the residence as scheduled on Friday morning.

According to Greg Needham, "Crews are still adding the finishing touches but we will be ready to welcome students on Monday."

Of interest to students is the fact that the food services will serve Starbucks coffee.  Ambrose is participating in Starbucks' CAFÉ Practices ensuring that coffee served on campus is fairly traded.

Ambrose is the first Canadian university to use a one card student ID access system.  This single card will serve as library card, transit pass, food services card, parking permit, printing and copying card and give access to the buildings.

The occupancy permits are a significant milestone in the construction of the campus and are another example of God's continuing provision for Ambrose.
