Spring modular courses are three-credit courses held every Spring and offer you and alternative way to pursue life-long learning or to complete your degree. These concentrated week-long modular courses are ideal to continue our education or for personal or professional development.
Spring 2008 includes our own faculty as well as visiting faculty from Westmont College and Mars Hill Graduate School.
Tremper Longman is the Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies at Westmont College. Dr. Longman has degrees from Ohio Wesleyan University (B.A.), Westminster Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Yale University (M.Phil.; Ph.D.). He has written a number of articles and books including Fictional Akkadian Autobiography, Introduction to the Old Testament, How to Read the Psalms, Reading the Bible with Heart and Mind, Old Testament Commentary Survey, Literary Approaches to Biblical Interpretation, and God is a Warrior. He has written a short commentary on the minor prophet Micah, as well as major commentaries on Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Daniel, and Nahum. In addition, he has teamed up with the psychologist Dan Allender to write four books: Bold Love, Cry of the Soul, Intimate Allies, and Bold Purpose. At present, he is engaged in research on the history of Israel, the biblical genres in the light of ancient Near Eastern literature, as well as commentaries on Proverbs and Jeremiah. He has also been active in the area of Bible translation, in particular he serves on the central committee that produced and now monitors the New Living Translation. Tremper and his wife Alice have three sons. In his spare time, he watches movies and plays squash. Dr. Longman will be teaching May 5-9 at Ambrose on Exodus.
Jo-Ann Badley, Mars Hill Graduate School, will be walking students through "The Sermon on the Mount" running May 12-16. Students will study Jesus' words as Matthew recorded and as the church has understood them in order that we might also be inspired and challenged to follow Jesus.
Jo-Ann Badley teaches at Mars Hill Graduate School in Seattle. She holds a doctorate in theology with a specialization in New Testament studies. Her great passion is the study of scripture for the church's use, and she has taught biblical studies for twenty years - including biblical Greek (and other classes) at Ambrose University College (CBC) from 1986-92.
Jo-Ann loves to travel: she has driven over the Arctic Circle and walked St. Cuthbert's path in northern England; she rarely watches TV but loves House. For recreation, she reads mystery novels as long as there is no graphic killing. She and her husband Ken live in Tacoma, and they have two adult children who live in Edmonton.
