May 29, 2008 - The Ambrose science program has hired Dr Halima Bello as Associate Professor of Science. Dr. Bello is coming to Ambrose from an appointment at McCleese University in Louisiana. Her husband Steve is an instructor in the business program at Ambrose. The Bellos have a two-year-old daughter.

Dr. Bello, who did her PhD at Texas A&M in plant genetics and botany, will teach in these disciplines at Ambrose. Program Head Dr. Carol Gibbons-Kroeker, who specializes in physiology and zoology, sees Dr. Bello's specializations broadening and deepening the new science program.

As well as expertise in her field, Dr. Bello brings to Ambrose a passion for teaching in a Christian university context. "My dream", Enthuses Dr. Bello, "Is to serve my students in the capacity of not just a teacher but also a mentor, a counselor and a motivator and the realization of this precious goal gives me a great fulfillment in life."

The Ambrose Bachelor of Science: Biology Major was approved by the Campus Alberta Quality Council in March 2008. The four-year program will educate pre-med students and others moving into careers in health care and science-related fields. The Dr. Gibbons-Kroeker and Dr. Bello expect to have 10-15 science majors in the program this fall. They are looking forward to teaching students in the lab facilities currently under construction on the new campus.

While the labs will have the basic equipment for testing and research, more materials and equipment are needed to enhance the classroom experience. The wish list includes: protein analysis equipment, autoclaves, centrifuges and blood testing equipment. Dr. Gibbons-Kroeker is thankful for the equipment donations that have come in so far.
