Volunteer Catalogues 784 Choral Octavos
Joyce Froehler, a regular volunteer in the Ambrose library, recently completed the mammoth task of integrating the two choral octavo collections of the founding institutions into one. The 784 title library is now housed in the Ambrose Music Department.
Each title is stored in a special choral box, and is catalogued in a data base which is accessible to Ambrose music faculty and choral ensembles. Joyce handled 28,747 individual pieces of music which she numbered by hand (in most cases erasing or covering over old information as she went) and hand labeled each box for the shelves. Joyce was especially suited for the choral octavo project due to her musical background
Joyce began volunteering for Ambrose when she travelled to CBC/CTS, then in Regina with work teams from Calgary's First Alliance. When the school moved to Calgary in 2003 she immediately began volunteering, help unload the CBC/CTS collection. When the Archibald and Thomson libraries were merged, Joyce put the security strip in every book; a two-year project.
The library staff and music department greatly appreciate Joyce's volunteerism. She was recently rewarded with a desk, computer and telephone which mean that she will be serving at Ambrose for a long time to come.
