LRT Extension a Benefit to Education in West Calgary

LRT Extension a Benefit to Education in West Calgary

news

November 21, 2007 - Calgary City Council is to be applauded for its decision to move ahead with the west LRT line. In 2001 Ambrose University College purchased land in west Calgary near 17th Avenue and 69th Street in order to take advantage of the proposed line. Construction of the first phase of the campus will be completed in the summer of 2008.

George Durance, Co-president sees the decision as significant. "When we stated our intention to buy and build near the future LRT line, a number of detractors commented to us that the line would never be built in our lifetime."

The decision to build the new line will provide essential transportation services for many students who will be commuting to our campus as well as to several other educational institutions in the immediate area. By 2013 when the line is anticipated to be operational, 17th and 69th will be one of the major educational centres in the city so Council's decision is a huge win for students in our city. It demonstrates a serious commitment on the part of the city to provide essential services for those who live and work in west Calgary.
