Learning Centre Receives Alberta Government Grant
MARCH 17, 2008
The Ambrose Learning Services Centre has recently received a very exciting grant from the Alberta Government. The centre was given the opportunity to submit a proposal and received a $14,000 grant to purchase equipment and materials. Terry Symes, Learning Services Coordinator writes "This is perfect timing as a designated Learning Centre was included as part of the new campus design and now it will not only be equipped; but done so with computers, software and equipment designed for that purpose."
This will further enhance our existing capabilities to provide textbooks in alternate formats using the Kurzwiel 3000 software package; or ZOOMtext 9.1 that allows our visually impaired students to read any book in our Library. For our students with reading disorders we have the Wizcom pens that allow them to scan and read their textbooks anywhere. For students wanting help with their writing we will have professional editing software and research aids such as EndNote and StyleEase. For all students on campus greater access to Learning Style tools and additional funds to hire additional student tutors.
The Learning Services Centre of Ambrose serves all students with Learning Disabilities, Physical Disabilities, and academic at risk students. Our Ambrose 101 program specifically targets first year students to ensure that each student is given the best possible opportunity to succeed in University. This is done through individual assessment, seminars that provide the basic building blocks of university life, and intervention based on the individual students needs.
The Learning Services Centre is also open to all students who need help with a particular assignment, setting up a time management plans, writing help, tutoring, or want involvement in one of our study groups.
