Futsal

Saturday Jan 12/08 - Taylor Fire at Ambrose Lions:

Men - Our men won the game handily 7-1, avenging a loss to this same team just prior to Christmas. In the second half of the season the team has added two players who really make a difference. Returning from last year is forward Al Gillespie and new this year is keeper Kevin Reierson. Both add much needed experience and increase the skill level of this team. The Lions meet up with Olds next weekend at Calgary West at 8pm.

Women - After settling for a tie earlier this year against the Taylor Fire, the women came out on fire with a dominating 10-1 win this last Saturday night. The team had goals from multiple players, but it was Casey Boda who stepped up with four goals to really lead the team offensively. The girls also added some new talent at the Christmas break in forwards Amy Kelly and Kelly Sagan. Both made an impact in the game and should help bolster their lineup. The women also battle Olds next weekend at Calgary West at 7pm.

Hockey

Saturday Jan 12/08 - St. Mary's Lightning at Ambrose Lions

The hockey team went out and defeated the St. Mary's Lightning by a score of 9-2. Ben Wideman was extremely solid in goal and the offense was provided by a number of players. Of note was the return of Dean Haugan who chipped in with 2 goals and the play of first-year defenseman Scotty Willms who added 4 helpers.

Monday Jan 14/08 - Ambrose Lions at Olds Broncos

The Lions headed north up highway 2 to face the Olds Broncos in a battle for first place. The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead only to see Olds turn the tables on the visitors. The teams finished the 2nd period with Ambrose down 6-2. Between periods, the team stressed the need to not give up. The line of Dean Haugan, Taylor McAlpine and Jon Pettigrew, provided an offensive spark as the team battled back, coming up one goal shy in a tough 7-6 loss. They showed heart, character and determination which should bode well for them as they head down the stretch.

Next up is St. Mary's Lightning on Saturday, January 19 at Crowfoot Arena at 11:30pm.
