Men's Basketball Lions Close Season with Loss to Olds

April 3, 2008 - On March 17 the Lions closed out the year with a heartbreaking 90-86 loss to the Olds Broncos.  The game was extremely tight and the teams exchanged leads throughout the game.  The contest came right down to the wire, with the Lions just falling short at the final buzzer.  A highlight of the game was the play of Captain Curtis Christison.  Playing in the final game of his college career, Christison scored 44 points, with 30 coming from three-point range.  Remarkably, this performance wasn't even his biggest offensive outburst of the season.  Earlier in the year he scored 54 points in a loss to Millar. 

While the men finished out of the playoffs, the mood on the team is positive as they look ahead to next year.   The team will return a number of young players which bodes well for the future.

Women Lions Finish Basketball Season with Pair of Losses to Olds and St. Mary's

April 3, 2008 - On March 17 the Lions came close to finding the win column against the Olds Broncos but ended up losing 58-51.  The women played one of their best games of the year with really solid efforts from Alyssa Klassen and Brianna Clark.  Both girls contributed offensively and Klassen was a force on defense, while contributing 14 points on offense.

The team closed the season on March 20 with a tilt against the top ranked Lightning from St. Mary's.  The Lions knew going in that the game would be a daunting challenge, but came to the gym to play.  Putting up a scrappy effort, they only trailed by 10 points at the quarter and 20 points at the half.  However, the Lightning's offense and experience showed itself in the second half, as they pulled away for a 93-36 win. 

While the score was lop-sided, the Lions played hard from start to finish and did not back down from the challenge.  Once again Alyssa Klassen and Brianna Clark stepped up and played extremely well for the Lions; the leaders both offensively and defensively.  While the women finished the year without a win, they feel confident in the strides they made this season.  An extremely young and experienced team, the coaching staff feels that there are some good pieces in place to build for the future.
