Men's Futsal Team Looking for Championship Repeat

The Ambrose Lions Men's Futsal team is excited to get the second half of the season underway. The team had a good start, but feel they can be much better. After going 3-1-1 before the Christmas break and showing glimpses of brilliance, this team has the potential to be even stronger than the team that won the ACAL championship last year.

Jon Pettigrew is the offensive leader of this team, while Dan Dasko and Matty Spate have also stepped up. Tim Shaw has turned out to be a pleasant surprise and late addition Jon Hollett also provides stability on the back end.
The Lions may be adding a couple of players for the second half run, and feel very confident that the only team that can beat them is themselves. Coach Shantz's team has opened the 2nd half of the season with back-to-back wins including an avenging of an earlier loss to Taylor.

Women's Futsal Team Aiming for Gold after Last-year's Silver

The Ambrose Lions Women's Futsal team began the year on a high with a dominating win at the ACAL pre-season tournament in Three Hills. In the first four games of the season the team only lost once. They are hoping to put more wins together in the 2nd half.
The team was pleasantly surprised with the performance of rookie forward Casey Boda as she was an offensive juggernaut. While Boda leads the team offensively, it has been the supporting cast that has kept them in the hunt. Mandy Barnett and Rianne Hoedeman have provided great leadership and Amber Locke has been unbelievable in goal.
The Lions have started the 2nd half on the right foot going 2 - 0 including a 10 - 1 blowout of rival Taylor.

A Solid Start for the Hockey Lions Giving Confidence for a Strong 2nd Half

The Ambrose Lions Hockey team begins the second half of the season with high hopes. After playing 7 games, the boys went into the Christmas break with 6 wins and 1 loss and were feeling especially good after a dominating 8-0 win over the St. Mary's Lightning.
While hockey is a team sport, there were a couple of bright stars that shone in the first semester. Former SAIT Trojan, Joe DeMichele, was a force both offensively and physically. Brett Fillmore, a fourth year veteran and alternate captain, was a true leader, doing the little things and chipping in offensively. Rookie defensemen, Noel Pariseau and Scotty Willms were both pleasant surprises and they look to log more ice time and help the Lions make another successful playoff run. Always important is good goaltending and this year's keepers Stuart Hall and Ben Wideman are proving a solid tandem.

Men's Basketball

The 2008 version of the Ambrose Lions Men's Basketball Team looks to be strong. Former head coach, Craig Fisher, returns as head coach after a one year hiatus. His son, and former player Tyler Fisher, will serve as an Associate Coach. The team welcomes back a couple of players from last year's squad, Curtis Christison and Sean Boyer, as well Tim Busse who returns after being away for one year. The team will be bolstered by some new faces that should make an immediate impact. The team will look to build on last year's success where they finished fourth overall in the ACAL.

The season begans in January, kicking off with the Hoopfest tournament in Edmonton and finishing with ACAL finals in Fort McMurray at Keyano College on March 29 and 30.

Women's Basketball

The 2008 version of the Ambrose Lions Women's Basketball team is looking to bounce back from a tough season last year. The team will look to new Head Coach, Mike Campbell, to provide leadership and experience. Mike is excited to work with the returning players as well as the new recruits as they attempt to build a team that is competitive and can challenge for a top position in the ACAL.

The team will open the season at the Hoopfest Tournament held at Taylor in Edmonton.
Coach Campbell and the team hope to be traveling to Fort McMurray at the end of March for ACAL basketball finals.
