October 7, 2008 - Volleyballers Jessica Bennik and Dan Prasad were named the Lions' Athletes of the Week following ACAL action this past weekend against Portage Community College and Augustana University College.  Both teams posted wins over Portage but lost tough matches to rival Augustana.

#10- Jessica Bennik; Women's Volleyball

This week's female athlete of the week is Jessica Bennik.  Jessica is in her first year with the women's volleyball team and has already made a serious impact.  Jessica has showed to her teammates that she can be relied upon when the game is on the line.  She is a big game player and knows what it takes to win. 

This past weekend her skills were on display as she helped the girls beat Portage Community College 3-0.  She was also a strong contributor in a tough loss to Augustana University College.  Coach Heinzig, who was particularly pleased with her serving and passing, also praised her hitting as "dominating". 

Jessica and her teammates are set to square off against cross-town opponent St. Mary's Lightning in the first ever game at the Ambrose gym (already nicknamed the Lions Den), this Friday October 10 at 6:30pm. 

Congrats Jessica on being named the Ambrose Lions Female Athlete of the Week.

#1 - Dan Prasad; Men's Volleyball

This week's male athlete of the week is Dan Prasad.   Dan is in his first year with the men's volleyball team and has been a force from day one.  He has become an integral part of the Lions offensive attack and has also shown that he can be relied upon to play solid defense as well. 

He was instrumental in the team's 3-0 win over Portage Community College and will be counted on to be a go-to-guy for the team the rest of the way. 

After the game, Coach Young noted, "Dan was very consistent offensively, but it was his passing and defense that was outstanding!  He had a number of spectacular digs in a tough loss to Augustana." 

The men's team has a bye week to rest up for the Home Opener on Thursday, October 16, when the Broncos from Olds College come to town. 

Way to go Dan on being named the Ambrose Lions Male Athlete of the Week.
