Athletic Awards Gala
April 18, 2008 - The Mel Sylvester Athletic Leadership Award and the Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards were presented at the Athletic Gala on Sunday, April 14.
Scott Willms and Rianne Hoedeman won the Ambrose 2007-2008 Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards.
Willms, a freshman, started his college athletic career on both the court and the ice. His dedication to Ambrose athletics was clear when he played on the volleyball, basketball and hockey teams. His dedication was also evident in class and in the Ambrose community.
"Regardless of the situation, Scott was a player who could be counted on," Ryan Willison, Ambrose Athletic Director said. "I am looking forward to the future with Willms being at the centre of what we are doing here."
Hoedeman, the women's futsal captain, was recognized for her great dedication, drive, and team spirit this year.
"When I think Rianne I think of dedication," Willison said. "She is committed to the things she puts her mind to and can be counted on to be supportive of her team-mates."
Curtis Christison was awarded the first Mel Sylvester Athletic Leadership Award. His ability to encourage those around him, and teach the up-and-coming athletes made him stand out as a deserving recipient of this reward.
