Ambrose BA Grad Accepted to Law Schools
Ambrose continues to gain national credibility for its degrees, as alumni gain acceptance into graduate and professional programs across the country. The latest success story belongs to Ian Elford. After beginning studies in Regina at CBC in2002, Ian completed a BA in Christian Studies in 2005; this September he is off to law school. Ian wrote the LSAT (law school admissions test) last fall and scored in the 96th percentile - an outstanding achievement! With a good LSAT in hand, Ian still had some anxieties about how Canadian law schools might regard a three year BA from a largely unknown Christian
university. The answer, it appears, is "with great interest." Ian has been accepted to the law schools at the University of Alberta and the University of Manitoba. His early acceptance letters from both the U of A
and U of M move him to the head of the line in qualifying for scholarships.
When asked why he is choosing law, Ian answered, "It presents an opportunity to work hard to defend the rights of the underprivileged in society. Justice is a fundamental value in Jesus' teaching, particularly when it comes to the rights ofthe oppressed. I get excited by the wide variety of different ways in which I could help people with a law degree. Practicing law is the best way I can think of to take the gifts and talents that I have and to use them to their fullest potential for good."
Ian's wife Jana Smith Elford, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Alliance University College (now Ambrose) in 2007 has gained acceptance to the graduate programs in English at the University of Alberta and the University of Manitoba.
