Jaffray Centre
The Jaffray Centre for Global Initiatives
Who We Are
The Jaffray Centre for Global Initiatives is a project development, training and research centre at Ambrose University College that seeks to integrate ideas, methods and new technological advances in support of the mission and purpose of Ambrose, as it seeks to make a difference in the lives of its students, its local community and ultimately out to various corners of the world.
The Jaffray Centre ‘s main objective is to collaborate with key strategic partners in order to facilitate new and creative solutions to many of the issues that confront us at this juncture in 21st Century.
The Jaffray Centre is also a centre of excellence in project management and intercultural education and training, and launching new initiatives that are both sustainable and reproducible.
The Centre's name was derived from a famous early 20th Century new Canadian family of Scottish descent. The Jaffray family immigrated to Canada in the late 1800s. Over time they developed a number of businesses; not the least of which was a newspaper company that they owned for the better part of 40 years. A newspaper that today we know as "The Globe and Mail".
Robert Jaffray Sr. was a builder of our nation, a respected business man, ...eventually ascending to the Vice-Presidency of the Imperial Bank of Canada (CIBC) and who later went on to serve Canada as a Liberal Senator for many years.
His son, Robert Jaffray Jr., was blessed with many of the same creative and entrepreneurial traits of his father and went on to have a very distinguished international career as a missionary. Robert Jaffray Jr. was a renowned global citizen whose entrepreneurship, innovative spirit, passion for people and visionary leadership speak to the core values and the spirit of the Jaffray Centre for Global Initiatives.
