Payment Deadlines

For all students, 100% of semester fees are due before the first day of classes. Any unpaid balance from a previous semester must be paid in full before registration for a new semester will be processed. Payment may be made by cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard or debit card.

Students who are unable to pay all their fees upon Registration must make acceptable arrangements with the Finance Office. A payment deferral fee of $125 will apply to such deferred payment arrangements. An interest charge will be applied to any outstanding accounts, at the rate of 1.33% per month (16% per annum). Acceptable deferred payment arrangements may include post-dated cheques, approved Canada/provincial student loan proceeds, scholarships, and bursaries.

Payment deferral forms are available at the Finance Office and should be completed and approved before classes begin to speed the registration process.

Student Loans

Canadian Students

Students who do not have sufficient funds for the full year should consider applying for a Provincial Student Loan. These loans are available to most Canadian students, and are interest-free until the completion of the students’ education, or termination of studies. Students should apply to the Provincial Student Loan Office as early as possible, processing may take up to 10 weeks. Application forms are available from the Financial Aid Office, Provincial Student Aid offices, or apply on line.

Student Line of Credit

A line of credit at a preferred interest rate is available from most financial institutions. Generally, a co–signature is required. Students who are not eligible for Canada Student Loans should seek a student line of credit at their preferred financial institution as a financing alternative.

Other Financial Assistance Options

  1. Entrance Scholarships
Entrance scholarships are available with eligibility based on academic achievement, see the Academic Calendar for more information. Complete the Entrance Scholarship application form, attach a copy of your latest transcript and mail to the Admissions Office. Students who do not enrol full time, and successfully complete the semester must repay the scholarship.
  2. Scholarships for Continuing Students
Scholarship applications are available from the Financial Aid Office or at www.ambrose.edu/finance/forms. Applications are due Feb. 15 and students will be notified by April 30 of any scholarships they may receive for the following semesters.
  3. Scholarships from other organizations, foundations and businesses are available to students and can be found online or at the Financial Aid Office.
  4. Student Financial Assistance Program

The Student Financial Assistance Program is funded by donations from individuals interested in providing financial assistance to students demonstrating financial need in accordance with criteria established by the Student Financial Assistance Committee. The following guidelines apply:

    • The student must be registered for six or more credit hours and must submit a Student Financial Need Form.  These forms are available at the Financial Aid Office.
    • Eligibility for assistance will be determined by the committee and will be based upon an accurate and complete application and the demonstrated level of financial need which cannot be met by personal resources. Academic proficiency may be a secondary consideration in awarding assistance.
  5. Part–Time Student Employment (PTSE)

Applications for on–campus employment may be obtained from and returned to the Personnel Office. Be aware that there are not sufficient positions or suitable work on campus for every student who applies. The Student Development Job Board will contain on–campus employment opportunities.

Payment for student employment will be made on the last working day of the month, and deposited into the student’s finance office account. If there is an outstanding balance, only 20% of the deposit will be available for withdrawal.

  6. Off–Campus Employment

Jobs may be available in the surrounding community. Students needing additional income should check at the Student Development Job Board for leads. Full–time students involved in off–campus employment should limit work to less than 20 hours per week. Any additional time should be discussed with Student Development. Non–Canadian students must check with the immigration authorities before accepting employment.
