He spent 13 years at the University of Prince Edward Island as a professor of accounting and business administration before joining Ambrose in 2006. He has taught a variety of accounting and business administration courses including introductory and advanced financial, managerial and cost accounting courses as well as entrepreneurship, introductory business, and operations management. He has also developed and taught several professional development courses for both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of PEI and the Society of Management Accountants of PEI.

David has also been heavily involved in administrative duties over the years serving as chairperson for the Senate Committee on Enhancement of Teaching and as chairperson of the Curriculum, Calendar, and Course Change Committee at UPEI. He also was elected to serve as a senator for UPEI and as treasurer of the UPEI Faculty Association.

He also has an extensive business background in his role as a consultant to private business/government and, most recently, in his roles as the Chief Financial Officer for the Cayman Islands Civil Aviation Authority (2002 - 2004) and Controller for the Queens Health Region in PEI (2005).

David has been an active member of his church community over the years serving as worship leader, deacon, and director of Christian education at his home church (Calvary Temple PAOC) in PEI. He has also served as treasurer and founding director of Birthright PEI. Besides church and music, David enjoys spending time with his wife Deana and their three children, Cameron, Maddie, and Elijah. He also likes to strap on the blades in winter and swing the clubs in the summer. David and his family now attend Rockpointe Alliance Church in Calgary.
