The Province of Alberta has approved Ambrose to offer a Bachelor of Education (After Degree) in Elementary Education (BEd) beginning Fall 2010.

The BEd at Ambrose meets the requirements for Interim Professional Certification in the Province of Alberta. Graduates will be certified to teach in Alberta and be eligible for certification in other provinces, as well as in countries other than Canada.

The BEd program at Ambrose meets the needs of the Province of Alberta's policy on the inclusion of children with special needs into regular classrooms. The program also addresses the emerging reality of globalization and increasing cultural diversity by providing opportunities for developing teachers to work in cross-cultural settings, including First Nations classrooms.

The BEd program is a two year 60 credit cohort program focusing on elementary (K-6) education in Alberta.

Distinctive Features

The program is distinguished by its emphasis on the public good and support of public school education with students learning through shared praxis the design of learning experiences for children and youth. The program emphasizes teaching as a vocation.
