Follow Your Heart's Desires

4. Follow Your Heart's Desires

When it comes to choosing what you are going to do when you graduate, do you find yourself asking any of these questions?

  • I've gone through the career planning process and completed all my research and have narrowed it down to 2 or 3 choices on what I want to do when I graduate. How do I choose between one or the other?
  • I know what I want, but I'm not sure how to get there.
  • I don’t quite feel qualified to start work yet, how can a paid internship help me after I graduate?
  • I want to travel I don’t want to settle down yet can I work overseas?

Answer: It is important to understand your values and goals when it comes to careers. Try to develop a decision making process and a method to prioritize. Once you have done that, it is easy to make a preliminary decision. Finally, talk to people in the field, respected professionals, your friends and family about your decision and if possible, volunteer in the area to get confirmation so you can learn more about the field first hand. Once you have done all and are affirmed that you have received confirmation, then some goal setting and action planning is in order!

Take the next step by doing some setting goals and priorities!
