Career and Vocational Development Planning

Career and Vocational Development Planning

Post-secondary students are often asked “why are you taking a ….. degree?” Before a student enters any post-secondary program, we, as parents hope that they have a clear understanding of what they can do vocationally with their studies. But knowing for sure is more often the exception than the rule! No matter how much, as students, parents or educators, we may wish that our students know clearly what their calling, vocation, occupation might be after graduation, it is very common for students to discover it during their post-secondary experiences. In the 21st century having an education, or finding an occupation are only some of the keys to being successful in the working world! More importantly, students should be asking how can I maneuver through this fast changing workplace where I may have multiple employers during my career or even multiple employers at the same time?

Understanding the process, methodology and steps used to plan a vocation or a career through our Career Development and Planning Centre equips students with valuable life skills to manage their careers throughout their life. Career planning is a life-long journey and the Career Centre is here to help our students take those first steps and equip them with a strategy for career management throughout life.

Career Development Centre

The Career Development Centre provides assistance to students making decisions about occupational selection, training, and education. In addition, we also help students develop their job search, résumé writing skills, and interview skills. Our staff seeks and posts job opportunities to assist students in finding employment during the school year and also for the summer months. Make sure you check out the ongoing Career workshops here.

Calgary has a strong part–time job market, so students who wish to work have a choice of different types and places of employment.

Opportunities for part–time student employment are available on campus. Visit the 7th floor job board or check our Resources and Links.
