Men's Hockey 2007-08
The Ambrose Lions Hockey team captured it's 3rd consecutive ACAL hockey championship with a 4-2 win over the Olds Broncos on Saturday, March 8 in Olds. The team was bolstered by two goals from Andrew Coates and singles by Scott Willms and Jon Hollett. Goaltender Ben Wideman stood tall between the pipes and made a number of key saves down the stretch to help secure the win. The boys defeated the Rocky Mountain Rams a day earlier in the semi-final, with the identical 4-2 score.
The Lions finished in 2nd place in the league this year and Olds was the only team Ambrose was unable to beat during the regular season. So to defeat that team was specifically gratifying.
It was the final game for a couple of Lion players who had given their all to this program for a number of years. The team says good-bye to captain Tim McAlpine; alternate captains Brett Fillmore, Craig Watt and Jordan Pauls; as well as 3rd year forward Andrew Coates. While it is hard to say good bye, those players were happy to go out on top.
The search for new recruits has already begun and Coach Willison believes that while next year's squad will be much younger, he feels they will be in the running once again for another championship.
