Location

Ambrose University College and Ambrose Seminary campus is located in the Canadian Centre Building at #630, 833 – 4 th Avenue S.W., Calgary, Alberta.

Calgary, a city of over one million people, is located in the rolling foothills of the Canadian Rockies, just a few hours from the U.S. border. The Calgary International Airport, just 20 minutes from our campus, is Canada's third busiest airport.

Calgary is known for its blue skies, and Alberta has more hours of sunshine in a year than any other province in Canada. A unique phenomenon called a Chinook wind can raise temperatures more than 20 degrees in one day, turning winter days into spring.

Calgary offers world-class facilities for winter sports, having hosted the Winter Olympics in 1988, and the nearby Rocky Mountains provide exhilarating skiing and other recreational opportunities. The "Stampede City" is also known for its western culture, beautiful pathways along the Bow River, symphony orchestra, and professional football and hockey teams.

Employment possibilities abound for students seeking an income during their education. With our convenient downtown location, there are employment opportunities available close to Ambrose, and a number of part-time positions are available on campus.

Facilities

Overlooking the scenic Bow River, our central location provides easy access to the business core, public transit, and numerous running and bike trails. Our facilities include four floors of classrooms, administrative and faculty offices, a number of student study areas, various locations for computer access, and an information commons that is available for academic and general use.

A comfortable apartment-style residence is located within short walking distance from our campus and close to the Calgary Transit System. The residence building offers affordable, shared accommodation in fully furnished apartments. Each suite comes equipped with a microwave, all kitchen appliances, and furniture. Laundry facilities are located in the basement, and two grocery stores are within short walking distance.

Library

One entire floor of our campus is dedicated for use by the Archibald-Thomson Library. The Library serves Ambrose University College and Ambrose Seminary.

With more than 100,000 volumes and 400 journal titles, it is the largest theological library in the Prairies and one of the largest private academic libraries in western Canada. Particular strengths include theology, biblical studies, pastoral studies, missions, history, music, psychology, and Islamics. Specialized research is further facilitated by special collections on the history of The Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) and the Church of the Nazarene in Canada and by archival collections on the institutional history of the participating Colleges and Seminary. The Archibald-Thomson archives are also the official repository for the records of the C&MA in Canada.

The library enhances its on site offerings through an online catalogue (accessible via the internet); by subscribing to full-text online periodical databases in theology and biblical studies, business, psychology, and the humanities; by membership in The Alberta Library consortium; and by participating in the provincial InterLibrary loan network. In addition, students and faculty of the Colleges and Seminary have borrowing privileges at the University of Calgary Library, which is the second-largest academic library in the province. Two professional librarians and three library staff members are available to assist students, faculty, and other researchers make optimum use of this vast array of learning resources.

Athletics

Ambrose University College varsity teams compete under the name Lions in the Alberta Colleges Athletic League in co-ed hockey, and men's and women's volleyball, basketball, and soccer.

Ambrose has entered a partnership with the Eastside Sports Training Centre to provide primetime gym space every day of the week for our varsity team games, practices and student recreation. This newly installed hardwood gym floor and basketball court is contained in a larger facility hosting three indoor soccer fields, shower rooms, meeting rooms and spectator space. The Eastside Sports Training Centre is easily accessible by Light Rail Transit — a 20 minute trip door to door from our campus.

Chapel

Chapel is held at the historic downtown Central United Church. Students travel to chapel via the C-Train.
