Ambrose Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

  1. Is Ambrose accredited?

    Ambrose is approved to offer Bachelor of Arts degrees by the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology of the Province of Alberta through on the recommendation of the Campus Alberta Quality Council. Ambrose is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools of United States and Canada to offer its Seminary degrees. Ambrose is also accredited with the Association of Biblical Higher Education.
  2. What institution will appear on degree parchments (diplomas)?

    All degrees are conferred by Ambrose University College and Ambrose appears on all degree parchments.
  3. Will other institutions still recognize an Ambrose degree?

    All other institutions have been informed that AUC and NUC are now Ambrose University College. If recognition of Ambrose by another institution is an issue for a student, clarification can be provided by the registrars office.
  4. Will other institutions recognize transfer credit?

    The Ambrose Registrar has made arrangements with Alberta Council on Admissions and Transfer (ACAT) so that the previous agreements for both AUC and NUC are now the agreements of Ambrose. This action simplifies the use of the ACAT system for students. Transfer arrangements with other institutions have been updated to make transfer to and from Ambrose clear to all involved.
  5. Can graduates from AUC, CBC, CNC, CTS, or NUC get a new parchment with ‘Ambrose' on it?

    Not at this time.
  6. Does becoming Ambrose affect the accreditation of programs with the Province of Alberta (CAQC)?

    The Province of Alberta worked with AUC and NUC to facilitate a smooth transition to Ambrose. On May 3, 2007 all approvals for degrees formerly offered by AUC and NUC were transferred to Ambrose.
  7. Does this change affect the accreditation of program with the Association of Biblical Higher Education (ABHE)?

    ABHE accreditation was transferred to Ambrose.
  8. Does this change affect the accreditation of programs with the Association of Theological Schools (ATS)?

    ATS accreditation was transferred to Ambrose.
  9. Why is the board structured with 8 Alliance, 4 Nazarene and 3 board-appointed members?

    The board structure reflects the financial and program resources of the merging institutions. For detailed financial information, download the 2005-2006 Annual Report from the website.
  10. Did Faculty change?

    The name change to Ambrose did not affect the composition of the Faculty.
  11. Does AUC-NUC still exist?

    AUC-NUC was the affiliation between two independently governed degree-granting institutions. The assets, personnel and programs of both institutions have been merged into a single university college. Therefore AUC-NUC exists as Ambrose University College.
  12. Why did AUC-NUC change to Ambrose University College?

    AUC-NUC became Ambrose in order to provide a solid financial and structural platform from which to offer our programs. A single institution is much easier to explain and market. We also want to emphasize openness to the wider Christian community beyond.
  13. Is Ambrose still affiliated with the Alliance or Nazarene denomination?

    Ambrose is the official Canadian school of both the Christian and Missionary Alliance and the Church of the Nazarene. Ambrose University College continues to serve its sponsoring denominations and the wider Christian community.
  14. Does Canadian Theological Seminary still exist?

    All of the programs formerly offered by CTS continue within Ambrose.
  15. Does Canadian Bible College still exist?

    All of the programs formerly offered by CBC continue within Ambrose.
  16. What is the new website?

    Our website is www.ambrose.edu.
  17. Did contact information for faculty or staff change?

    Contact phone and fax numbers have remained the same. E-mail addresses are first initial last name @ambrose.edu.

Admissions/Registrar Questions

  1. If a student only has a few courses left (after May 3, 2007), does this mean he/she will graduate from Ambrose?

    Yes, after the April 2007 graduation degree granting authority transferred to Ambrose.
  2. Can a student still graduate from AUC or NUC after May 3, 2007?

    No, after the 2007 graduation all degree granting authority transferred to Ambrose. You can still register for classes to complete your program with Ambrose.
  3. Does a transcript indicate that a student attended AUC, CBC, CNC, CTS or NUC?

    Yes, your transcript will show clearly that you attended any of the above schools. The transcript key on the reverse of your transcript provides details.
  4. Can a transcript for a degree completed in the past be obtained from Ambrose?

    Ambrose is the official repository of AUC and NUC records going back to earliest years. Students needing transcripts for their work at AUC or NUC can access these documents through the Ambrose Office of the Registrar.
  5. Does the change to Ambrose affect my program?

    Degree granting rights for all AUC and NUC academic programs transferred to Ambrose. Programs did not change as a result of the name change to Ambrose University College.
  6. Does the change to Ambrose affect transferability of classes from AUC or NUC to other institutions?

    Any current transfer agreements other institutions have with AUC or NUC transferred to Ambrose.

Finance Questions


  1. Do scholarships awarded by AUC or NUC apply to Ambrose?

    Yes. All scholarships awarded by AUC or NUC transferred to Ambrose University College.
  2. Do any of the fees and/or tuition change?

    The name change to Ambrose did not affect fees or tuition.
  3. Should financial institutions holding student loan/bank loans be notified of the name change?

    No. Your new ‘Schedule 2' (form used to keep student loans interest free) will simply be issued in the name of Ambrose University College.
  4. Will a student line of credit be affected?

    No. Ambrose University College will appear on post-secondary institution lists.

Student Life Questions

  1. How does the new name affect a student visa?

    The name change to Ambrose University College will have no affect on my student visa.
